Quote of the Day --- "Our Past"
--J. Sakiya Sandifer--
I hear a lot of people talking about they are who they are because what they have gone through and they cannot change that. What we have gone through has very little to do with what our futures are and how we define ourselves. It is sad when people settle for a way of life or give in to their circumstances because of their past. We always have control of who we are and what we become, if we feel that we do not have that control. It is no one's fault, but our own.

Quote of the Day --- "Storytelling"
--Hannah Arendt--
Just a reminder why I love stories and things that tell a story. Everyone can take their own meaning away from something. One million people can look at one painting and there can be a million different perspectives, interpretations, and meanings due to people differing experiences, creativity and imagination. That's beautiful.

Quote of the Day --- "Growth"
--Johann von Goethe--
"I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday."
--Abraham Lincoln--
In order to become better people and to get to where we want to go, we have to be willing to grow. We have to grow our minds, our thinking and sometimes change how we view things in order to get where we want to be. Many times our resistance against change and seeing things differently, often times holds us back and limits our growth.

Quote of the Day --- "Regret"
--Ingrid Bergman--
Never do anything you will regret an the morning or down the road. We all have the reason and the brain to make good decisions. If we choose not to do that it is simply your own fault and you have to live with that. Think before you act.

Quote of the Day --- "Beauty"
--Jacqueline Bisset--
"Beauty without intelligence is an illusion that is close to disenchantment. It is like a fairy that fascinates us, as long as we look at her through the enchanting prism of her beauty. However, it disappears as soon as the light of reason penetrates beyond the place where the eyes can see."
--Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera--
This is for those females and males out there who believe beauty is simply a physical attractiveness. Real beauty is born out of more than just physical presence and ability. No matter how you dress yourself up or how much make up your put on or how many weights you lift, there is no replacement for true beauty, which lives on the inside and is shines through our outer presence. True beauty comes from our character and our values. Without these essentials, physical beauty can be the ugliest thing we ever lay our eyes upon.

FLOGOS
"Flogos are taking your marketing to the skies, and then some. It’ll shape your logotype into a “cloudy” mixture of soap-based foam and helium - and send it off to drift for miles, as high as 6 kilometers up.
Any form can be made (of any color) and almost any specified location covered. The company seems to maintain that “flogo” shapes are environmentally friendly (they just evaporate after a while, and airplanes will fly through them like through any cloud."
Not sure if this is effective branding or marketing, but is definitely a cool, innovative idea. This could possibly used in the future if we have hover cars or something. Could possibly be used to advertise to people traveling and be a new reason to get a window seat.
True Definition of Style (and what not to do)
"For the gifted ones, style is an unconscious way of dressing immaculately, in other words it’s not a math problem and is done without any brain power. Apprising to becoming a fashion guru style is an all high aim like
Once in a while our ambitions are on top with excitement dazzling through the body in the build of a super outfit. The month’s wage has just hit the bank account, the weather is amazing, all the 9 planets are aligned and the new additions to the wardrobe are ready for a debut. We simply want to dress to kill and generate draw as many eyes as possible boosting ourselves confidence. If dressing good was a crime, the fella pictured would have been convicted of first degree homicide. One can’t argue the fact that he wake up and put on what ever was laying around. His swagger is at an all time high and he looks great, doesn’t he? Unfortunately a bit too good. The over matched touches give an imitation of fabrication as if he was dressed by a boy-band wardrobe stylist.
Aspiring Ad Man
Great interview from Advertising Age. Great answers and advice for aspiring ad people from Bart Cleveland (Creative Director and a partner McKee Wallwork Cleveland). What I got from the interview is that character, ethics, a positive attitude and dedication to your craft will get you further than talent, creativity and genius.
Recently a young man sent me a letter with a few questions that showed he was thinking seriously about his career. I thought I'd share our conversation with everyone because I believe his questions are of the type we should each be asking ourselves. Whether you agree with my answers, consider the questions. Offer your own answers. Maybe a young person can benefit from your experience.
Q1: What has been the guiding force when you've made career decisions?
A1: Two things:
1. A commitment to my principles. It's important that you have and use a moral compass. One day you may have the privilege of passing it on to your children.
2. A commitment to doing my best.
My commitment to doing my best goes back to my college days when I was studying under a great teacher, a former partner of the Creative Circus, Rob Lawton. Rob was a tyrant in the class, but we loved him. He helped us prove to ourselves we were capable of much more than we realized. Doing one's best means working harder than we think we have to. Whether it's a good opportunity or a mediocre opportunity, give it your all. I've seen award-winning work come from seemingly hopeless assignments.
Q2: Is there a plan?
A2: There must be a plan if you want to succeed at anything. From your letter, I realize that you have studied my agency as well as others. So you are looking for something in particular. That's a plan. As far as your career goes, have a long-range plan and intermediate goals within it.
Q3: Are there guiding principles at the core of your decision-making or is it more of a here and now process?
A3: Answer No. 1 answers Question No. 3, but the "here and now" may offer an unprecedented opportunity. Be flexible but take advantage of the unplanned. Just don't compromise your ethics.
Q4: What sort of things do you read?
A4: I read all kinds of things. In fact I continually have a topically diverse stack of books on my nightstand. I read a little from each every night. A few good books on the ad business are: "Hey Whipple, Squeeze This!" by Luke Sullivan; "The Houdini Solution" by Ernie Schenck; "Perfect Pitch" by Jon Steel; and "Juicing the Orange" by Pat Fallon and Fred Senn.
Q5: Where do you look for inspiration?
A5: I've learned that everything has the application for a great ad, so everything we experience should be our inspiration. You just have to connect the dots.
Q6: Are there particular people you look to for inspiration outside the ad business?
A6: There are many who inspire me: those who have selflessly given their lives for another. Those who anonymously give to the needy. Those who use their talent to its highest potential. The underdog who never gives up and succeeds in spite of tremendous odds.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL "The Art of Mr. Brainwash"
Inspiring and unique artwork. Nothing like I have ever seen before. Love the use of the iconic images, people and symbols.
"Mr. Brainwash or MBW is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker.
MBW has spent the last nine years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about grafitti art. But whilst filming many of the world's most renowned street artists at work MBW began putting his camera aside and making art on his own. He is now one of the most prolific street artists in California.
MBW does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. Hist artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational."
Life Is Beautiful.
Congratulations to the Celtics
The Lakers, who seemed to have it all together, are still a few steps behind. Kobe needs more help and Odom and Gasol were exposed and proved they are not the answers to the Lakers Championship hopes.
Good series but, the Lakers doomed themselves with that Game 4 meltdown loss. Expect to see the same two teams in the Finals next year. Do the Celtics have what it takes to create a dynasty? Only time will tell.
Quote of the Day --- "Genius"
--Edward George Bulwer-Lytton--
Everyone possesses genius. It's not how smart you are or what you know. It's your dedication and determination. Everyone has the ability to be great, but not everyone has the motivation to be great. Finding your purpose and committing yourself to that purpose will unlock your genius.

The Corporate Takeover of Jay-Z (and still the best rapper alive)
Jay-Z has eclipsed the rap game and has become one of the most respected and recognized business men in the world. Lots of people attempt to discredit Jay for his business savvy and not having the traditional MBA training of a top executive. But what makes Jay so appealing and is his ability to make smart business decisions and create innovative ideas because he has come from a different background and represents something that is not business oriented.
Despite Jay's vast accomplishments, it's funny to me when people try to compare Lil' Wayne to Jay-Z. They are in two different classes . Cut from a different cloth. Many people try to compare Wayne to Jay on a rap level. That is clearly no argument. On their most recent project together, "Mr. Carter", from Wayne's Carter III, Jay easily out performs Wayne.
In my opinion, Wayne is a product of his own hype. Wayne's main talent is in his controversial appeal and his ability to sell his "unique style" and "craziness". Classic marketing and branding, if you have people's attention and tell them something enough times, they will eventually begin to believe it. That is what has happened with Wayne and he has people considering the thought that he is "the best rapper alive".
Why can't Wayne be compared to Jay?
The simple fact that corporate takeover and Jay-Z can be mentioned in the same sentence is enough of an answer. Jay-Z is a clever rapper, a trend setter, a smart, instinctive business man, and possesses a character and swagger that can not be replicated easily. Many may argue that this has nothing to do with who is that best rapper, but nothing can be any less true. Rap is just as much about image as it is about lyrical content, flow and beats. Jay's presence and style is wanted by more people than Wayne. More people aspire to be like Jay-Z than Wayne. Wayne is just a buzz-maker. Jay is a news-maker. Wayne is making headlines about the possibility of bankruptcy, his addiction to drugs, and beefing with DJs. Jay is making headlines about opening hotels, casinos, creating his own color for automobiles and representing NBA teams at the draft lottery. Wayne is not in the same league as Jay, rap wise, business wise, money wise, or swagger wise. Jay-Z has taken over the rap game and is preparing the world for his corporate takeover.
In the words of Jay himself, "...if money talks, the whole world about to hear me out..."
The Corporate Takeover of Jay-Z
Lil' Wayne Financial Problems
Money in the Bank...
Considering all that is going on in the economy with increased gas and food prices, a suffering housing market, layoffs and the most of the economy watching their money disappear in these poor conditions, the pay of CEOs continues to increase, many times with the performance of their companies steadily decreasing(Half of the CEOs in the top 10 of highest paid CEOs are leading companies whose profits have significantly dropped the past year). The median salary for CEOs in 2007 was $8.4 million, which was a 3.5 percent increase from 2006.
The thing that is astonishing to me is that the pay for executives seems to increase despite poor performance. There seems to be no accountability for CEOs who are not able to improve suffering companies. A message is being sent that the worst you do the more money you will make. Anyone can prosper with that type of standard. I also wonder why are executives paid so much, but the working class, blue collar workers struggle to make ends meet and pull a decent check. Sometimes they do not even know if they will have their jobs when they wake up for work the next day.
More power to the executives, they are getting their money, whether it is deserved or not. But, I think their should definitely be consideration of a performance based salary, especially in these economic times. Maybe its just the way of the world, but does that make it right? Just something to think about.
Top 10 Highest Paid CEOs
1. John Thain, Merrill Lynch, $83.1 million
2. Leslie Moonves, CBS Corp., $67.6 million
3. Richard Ackerson, Freeport-McMoran Cooper & Gold, Inc., $65.3 million
4. Bob Simpson, XTO Energy, $56.6 million
5. Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., $53.9 million
6. Kenneth Chenault, American Express Co., $51.7 million
7. Eugene Isenberg, Nabors Industries Ltd., $44.6 million
8. John Mack, Morgan Stanley, $41.7 million
9. Glenn Murphy, Gap Inc., $39.1 million
10. Ray Irany, Occidental Petroleum Corp., $34.2 million
Quote of the Day --- "Love"
--Anonymous--
This quote is dedicated to women and young ladies I hear saying they want to fall in love, but still want to have their independent woman steez. What I find is that most females always talk about what they want from a guy, but fail to realize what it takes to be in a relationship and develop a real love. Most females have a take-take type of attitude, which is unfortunate, because it usually leads to their unsuccessful relationships and their continued lack of accomplishment in the dating department. You have to be willing to give, sometimes more than you take. This goes for guys too, but I am male and I only have experience with selfish females. Bottomline: to develop true love you have to compromise and until one is able to compromise, there will not be much success in the love department.

Quote of the Day --- ""Common Sense"
--H.L. Mencken--
I am told a lot that I am a negative person or that I hate everything and I think everything is 'wack'. This quote is for those people who have that feeling about me. I enjoy people who think and act with a certain kind of substance and intelligence. It just so happens there is a great lack of that in the world today.

GET MONEY!!!! --- My Favorite Rap Song of All-Time
Classic song!!! Biggie kills it. Lil' Kim kills it. The beat is crazy. Old Bad Boy music is always stellar and will always get a party jumpin'. The sample on this song is from Sylvia Striplin's "You Can't Turn Me Away". A lot of people knock sampling and thinks it takes no talent, but it takes genius and a musical ear to hear a song and imagine how to piece it and put it to another beat that can still rock a crowd and not discredit the original. This song is a great example of this genius.
Quote of the Day---"Fear"
--Eric Hoffer--
True statement. People usually cover up their fears and insecurities by acting in a certain way to people, usually negative, and to feel better about themselves. Best way to handle our fears is to face them and challenge them head on. Almost every time, we will surpass them, conquer them and become better, more productive individuals.

2008 NBA Finals---Lakers win Game 3; Celtics Lead 2-1
First off, the Celtics are not a road team. They have won one road game this playoffs and there is no evidence that they will win anymore. Yes, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have played well, but when they don't the Celtics do not have an offense. You could say the same for the Lakers, but Kobe will not have a bad game. The Lakers do need a bigger contribution from its starters namely Odom. Odom and Gasol have to dominate the Celtics front line, which they should be able to outside of Garnett. In Game 3, Sasha Vujacic had a great game and people are saying he is the only reason the Lakers won the game. You could very much say that for the Celtics in Game Two when Leon Powe had 21 points and had the referees as a sixth player on the floor for their team. People fail to forget that the Lakers did come back from 24 points in the 4th quarter on the road and that Kobe had 30 points on 11-23 shooting without many trips to the free-throw line.
Bottom line, the Lakers are not out of the series and I still believe will win this series. The Lakers are a better team and have not even played their best basketball and are still in the series. Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson will not allow the rest of the Lakers to play a horribly the rest of the seris. Boston will not be the same team in LA that they are in Boston. Paul Pierce knee injury will catch up to him and Rondo will not be able to sustain his great play he had in the first two games, especially now that Kobe is guarding him. Most importantly, Kobe is figuring out what he has to do to beat the Celtics and that is become an unstoppable, aggressive offensive force, which he began to show in Game 3.
The Lakers will win Game Four, Boston will panic and everyone will be on the Kobe bandwagon again. Lakers win the series 4-2.

Quote of the Day --- "Persistence"
--Marie Curie--
Sometimes things in life do not work out how we want them or are not the way we think they should be, but we should not give up. We have must understand that we have to work hard and endure through the hard times to get to the good times. Besides if we got everything easy we would not appreciate things as much when we achieved them. Work hard, stay confident and everything will work out for the good.

"Wait 'til I Get My Money Right!" --- What is True Success???
When I ask people to define success or when people imagine their future success, it always goes back to material possessions and monetary amounts. One of my favorite songs is Kanye West's "You Can't Tell Me Nothing". It is anthem for my generation simply because of the struggle we have as a society with the true meaning of success.
The song's chorus sings "La la la la, Wait 'til I get my money right, La la la la then you can't tell me nothing right." Many people relate to this chorus and to this song simply because we all aspire to be the freshest, to be envied, to be praised, to have all the money, all the clothes and all the hoes. We aspire to be 'successful'.
There is nothing wrong with material possessions and monetary gains, but they should not be our motivation. In society today, we are taught and given images that money and material things is what gets us noticed for our success and what matters. Nothing could be anymore false. When we look for success we are looking for freedom and the ability to do what we want. This freedom brings power, happiness and invisibility. That is what "you can't tell me nothing" means anyways. However, all of these possessions and gains are temporary and we are in fact looking for is peace and happiness.
When you think about it, true success is achieving true happiness and everything else is just an additional bonus. What makes us truly successful is our ability to be comfortable with who we are as people, appreciate what we have been blessed with and the small things in life that bring us happiness and peace. When you look at success this way, life becomes that much more enjoyable and less and less stressful.
Truth is, we will never have enough money, enough cars, enough girls/boys, enough clothes, or a big enough house to be successful. True success is a mindset as I have stated before. True success is a maturity that we must reach and is where true happiness rest. When the time comes where we realize this true state of success, we can then truly say, "You Can't Tell Me Nothing."

Quote of the Day --- "Self-Respect"
--Richard Bach--
"An individual's self-concept is the core of his personality. It affects every aspect of human behavior: the ability to learn, the capacity to grow and change...A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success in life."
--Joyce Brothers--
I often have conversation with people and they are always discussing or I can tell they are concerned what other people my think about them or how people view them. My only response is that it does not really matter. It's hard to accept that truth because some people involve other people so deeply in their everyday lives. It is alright to be aware of what other people think of you or how other people view you, as long as we remember that what we think of ourselves is most important. We enter this world alone and we depart this world alone. It is essential that we embrace ourselves and attempt to learn one of life's hardest lessons, the lesson of who we really are as people. We must have the respect for ourselves to take interest in ourselves and to care about ourselves like many of us care about those around us. When we learn to respect ourselves lots of the petty drama and problems, we deal with in life will simply disappear. Besides, we can never truly respect someone else until we respect ourselves and other people will not respect you until you respect yourself.

NAS --- "HERO"
This is the new single off of Nas's new album. The album, which was to be called "Nigger", will not longer carry that name. A new title has not yet been selected. This track features Keri Hilson and is produced by Polow Da Don. The track is good and has a positive message. Nas can always be counted on to come with some strong music.
I admire Nas for the way he stands up to controversy and is not afraid to speak his mind. The way he handled the hate from the parents of the Virginia Tech shooting victims and the bad press he has gotten for calling his album, "Nigger", shows strong character and substance. It is funny to me how one of the few rappers, who writes about social issues and things that matter gets battered, while these other rappers whose concepts deal with nothing, but their own glorification and pointless beef get praised, get their ringtones bought and get repeated spins on the radio and in the club.
I agree with changing the name of the album at this time due to the times we are in in America. I do not think people are ready to walk into a store and see the word that many of us, black and white, use on a regular basis, plastered on a CD on a shelf. But, I definitely understand the concept and believe that Nas trying to place such a controversial word in our faces to force us to deal with the real issues that live behind the word is something that is needed.
This to me is simply another hint that we as people need to have a thorough self-examination about what goes on in this world. We have a lot to deal with as people and as a society.
N.E.R.D. Seeing Sounds
This album had some great buzz from N.E.R.D's presence on the Glow and the Dark Tour and the great singles and leaked songs really lent to the album concept of seeing sounds. Everybody Knows and Spazz are great singles and the instrumentals on these songs make you feel out of this world as if you were seeing sounds. Past these singles and one or two other songs the album did not really feel like I was seeing sounds. However, this was a strong album and stayed consistent with the N.E.R.D. style and sound, I just did not feel like it really followed the seeing sounds concept. My personal favorite song is Love Bomb, which takes you to another world with its sound as well as a positive message. However, I am still a big N.E.R.D. fan. Thumbs up on the new album. SEEING SOUNDS officially is released tomorrow, June 10th. GO GET IT! I will definitely be buying a copy and will keep it in the CD rotation for a couple of weeks. SPPPPAAAAZZZZZ!!!!!
Quote of the Day --- "Character"
--Dale Carnegie--
Recently, I have encountered several incidents where people have had great reputations, but very little to no character. Many people believe the more people that like them or agree with them or praise them for who they are is important and makes them who they are. But these are just signs of an insecure person and weak attempts to build one's self-esteem when they know they truly possess no substance. Bottom line, a good reputation is great, but when that reputation is not backed by a weak character, your reputation is worthless. All in all, character will always standout over reputation. Whether that character is good or bad, reputation only has a short life and one's character lives forever.

My Weekend---Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Quote of the Day --- "Aspiration"
--Eberhard Arnold--
This quote is inspired by an moment that took place during my weekend. I was at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and was talking to this restless little kid. He was complaining about the hot weather and I asked him if he was ready to go, did he want to eat and his reply to everything was "I don't know." I am not the most patient with little kids so I replied what do you know or at least tell me something you want to know. At this moment, we were walking past a roller coaster and he said I want to know how to build one of those.
Most people would just brush that off as little kid talk. But this was a kid who was upset he was too short to ride any of the big rides all day and the rides he got on he had nothing but fun on and was filled with laughter. I told him that is definitely something he could learn to do and should take do anything possible to learn about these rides. With that said, coming from someone who is not the fondest of children, children are some of the brightest thinkers and imaginers there are. It reminded me that I should never lose my desire to learn or my aspiration to know those things I wonder about.

Quote of the Day --- "Success"
---Alexander Graham Bell---
Success is a mindset. It is a mindset that will all have the ability to possess, but it takes discipline, hard work, resilience and dedication to better ourselves and nurture a successful mindset. It is a struggle; however, it is a necessary struggle that we all must face if we want to be the best we can be and live to our highest potential.
