The Corporate Takeover of Jay-Z (and still the best rapper alive)

Jay-Z has eclipsed the rap game and has become one of the most respected and recognized business men in the world. Lots of people attempt to discredit Jay for his business savvy and not having the traditional MBA training of a top executive. But what makes Jay so appealing and is his ability to make smart business decisions and create innovative ideas because he has come from a different background and represents something that is not business oriented.

Despite Jay's vast accomplishments, it's funny to me when people try to compare Lil' Wayne to Jay-Z. They are in two different classes . Cut from a different cloth. Many people try to compare Wayne to Jay on a rap level. That is clearly no argument. On their most recent project together, "Mr. Carter", from Wayne's Carter III, Jay easily out performs Wayne.

In my opinion, Wayne is a product of his own hype. Wayne's main talent is in his controversial appeal and his ability to sell his "unique style" and "craziness". Classic marketing and branding, if you have people's attention and tell them something enough times, they will eventually begin to believe it. That is what has happened with Wayne and he has people considering the thought that he is "the best rapper alive".

Why can't Wayne be compared to Jay?

The simple fact that corporate takeover and Jay-Z can be mentioned in the same sentence is enough of an answer. Jay-Z is a clever rapper, a trend setter, a smart, instinctive business man, and possesses a character and swagger that can not be replicated easily. Many may argue that this has nothing to do with who is that best rapper, but nothing can be any less true. Rap is just as much about image as it is about lyrical content, flow and beats. Jay's presence and style is wanted by more people than Wayne. More people aspire to be like Jay-Z than Wayne. Wayne is just a buzz-maker. Jay is a news-maker. Wayne is making headlines about the possibility of bankruptcy, his addiction to drugs, and beefing with DJs. Jay is making headlines about opening hotels, casinos, creating his own color for automobiles and representing NBA teams at the draft lottery. Wayne is not in the same league as Jay, rap wise, business wise, money wise, or swagger wise. Jay-Z has taken over the rap game and is preparing the world for his corporate takeover.

In the words of Jay himself, "...if money talks, the whole world about to hear me out..."
